Welcome to the
Hawk Family
Starting TK or Kindergarten is a big milestone — for your child and for you. Here’s everything you need to know to get started.
Getting Ready for Day One
Register Your Student
All new students must register with the Mt. Diablo Unified School District before starting school. Registration typically opens in January of the year your child will begin — don’t wait! Register with MDUSD
All in One Day
After you’ve registered, watch your mailbox. All registered students receive a letter inviting you to All in One Day, typically held in late July. Here’s what to expect:
– Your child’s teacher assignment
– Whether your child is an Early Friend (earlier dismissal) or Late Friend (later dismissal)
– A welcome letter from your child’s teacher
– A full information packet covering everything you need to know about starting school
– Your calendar magnet with all PFC event dates for the year
Get Set Up on ParentSquare
After All in One Day, the email address you used to register will be active on ParentSquare — the platform HVE uses for all school-wide communication, including the principal’s weekly newsletter. Make sure you’re signed in and notifications are turned on. Use the email or phone number you used to register with the school to set up your ParentSquare account.
Meet the Teacher
The day before school starts, HVE typically hosts a Meet the Teacher event just for TK and Kindergarten families. You and your child can come to campus together, tour the classroom, and meet their teacher for the first time. It’s a wonderful way to ease those first-day nerves — yours and theirs!
School Supplies
TK and Kindergarten students do not have a school supply list. Your teacher may share specific requests for classroom donations, but there’s nothing you need to go buy before day one. Plan to have a backpack, water bottle, and change of clothes. That’s it!
What does make a difference: the PFC provides every teacher with $600 or more each year to spend directly on their classroom. When you donate to the PFC, this is exactly where your contribution goes.
Register as a Volunteer
Classroom parties, field trips, and any volunteering during school hours requires volunteers to be registered with the district, with fingerprinting and TB clearance. Register now and you’ll be able to volunteer for your child’s entire school career at MDUSD, including Middle and High School.
Review the PFC Events Calendar
Your All in One Day calendar magnet has all the dates. In the meantime, take a peek at what’s ahead. There’s something for every family throughout the year.

-
Walk and Roll – coming soon
Walk and Roll is our weekly initiative to get Hawks students moving, connecting, and arriving at school in a healthier, greener way. Every week, students are encouraged to walk, ride, scoot, or carpool to school and earn a small reward. Each student has a unique scan tag on their backpack that gets checked in on…
-
Angel Tree
Each December, Hidden Valley families have the opportunity to support their neighbors by adopting a gift tag and making a child’s holiday wishes come true.
-
Yearbook
Each year, PFC volunteers create a cherished keepsake yearbook for every Hidden Valley family — filled with memories from across the school year and a special place for fifth graders to leave their mark.
