Two Ways to Glow
Pick the one that works for your family.
Glow Pumpkin or Ghost
- Pick your shape — pumpkin or ghost!
- Draw the outline of your shape on your paper.
- Add a spooky face or design.
- Picked a pumpkin? Don’t forget the stem!
- Carefully cut out your shape.
Your Own Neon Creation
- Use neon paint, pastels, markers, paper — whatever you like.
- Any family-friendly Halloween or fall theme: bats, moons, black cats, leaves, candy corn, monsters…
- Fun, not frightening — keep it friendly for our youngest Hawks.
Tips for Maximum Glow
Blacklight makes neon colors pop — here’s how to get the brightest result.
Avoid a white background
Use black or neon paper, fully cover white paper in neon colors, or cut around your art. Working on black? Use acrylic paint pens. Markers, crayons, highlighters, and paint sticks won’t show under normal light.
Choose high-glow colors
Look for “neon” or “fluorescent” on the label. These glow the brightest:
Go bold
Thick lines and big shapes read best from across the room. Press hard with pastels and markers for more color.
Test with an invisible ink pen
The little light on an invisible ink pen is a blacklight! Use it to check which supplies you already own will glow, and to preview your art before you turn it in.
Grab the highlighters
Most highlighters glow under blacklight, so check your junk drawer before you buy anything new!
Use what you have
Have glowing supplies that don’t show up well on black? Cover a whole sheet of white paper in neon colors, then add a spooky black silhouette on top, like a bat, black cat, or haunted house.
Neon Supply List
Want to make your art at home? We rounded up glow-friendly paper, markers, paint, and pastels in one handy list. (Totally optional — office kits are available too!)
